Is This Creativity Power Food Missing From Your Diet?

Note: This is Day 17 in the “Recharge Your Creative Batteries in 31 Days” Challenge. For the rest of July, we’ll be posting different ways for you to get yourself on the path to living in a creative flow and reaching your writing goals. Be sure to subscribe so you don’t miss any.

There’s something missing from your diet, and you may not even realize it.

You’re not alone. This food is missing the most in the modern day diet.

It’s something you need. Not just because it tastes good, but because the benefits of eating it are so powerful.

The Missing Ingredient

The food missing from most diets is dark, leafy green vegetables. Things like spinach, kale, collards, bok choy or Swiss chard, etc.

You may currently be eating the most popular of the dark, leafy greens—broccoli—but that’s usually where it stops for most people.

And the thing is, greens aren’t just another health food. They’re the golden egg of health food. Increase the amount in your diet and see huge differences in how you feel.

Greens are great for:

  • Energy
  • Blood purification
  • Cancer prevention
  • Improved circulation
  • Strengthened immune system
  • Promotion of healthy intestinal flora
  • Promotion of subtle, light and flexible energy
  • Lifted spirit and elimination of depression
  • Improved liver, gall bladder and kidney function
  • Cleared congestion, especially in lungs by reducing mucus

Plus, in Asian medicine, green is related to the liver, emotional stability and creativity.

More Benefits of Eating Green

Nutritionally, greens are very high in:

  • Calcium
  • Magnesium
  • Iron
  • Potassium
  • Phosphorous
  • Zinc
  • Vitamins A, C, E and K

They are also crammed with fiber, folic acid, chlorophyll and other micronutrients.

It’s best to go Organic when eating greens, but you’re always better off eating conventional greens than no greens at all.

They’re easy to cook, too. Just boil, saute, steam or eat them raw in a salad or smoothie.

There’s a million combinations of flavors you can put together to make a creative, delicious dish that you’ll gobble down.

My tip is baby spinach, apart from being very tasty, and easy to cook, as it literally requires seconds to blanche or stir fry. It’s also good for busy or lazy folk, as you can buy it bagged, and ready to go.

I sprinkle it liberally into salads raw, serve it steamed for a few seconds with salmon or chicken, and when I cook pasta, I add huge handfuls to the pan after I turn the heat off, Let it wilt for 30 seconds then drain and serve it with whatever sauce I’ve made.

    Good post.

You’re so right. Baby spinach is a great tip. Just remember to mix up the greens you eat for variety and nutritional benefit.

Interesting this post should show up today. I did my weekly grocery shopping this morning. I came home with kale and baby spinach, along with things like cabbage, romaine, and red leaf lettuce. Since I also bought cremini mushrooms, I’m planning on sauteing the kale with onions, garlic, and mushrooms tonight. In olive oil, of course.

I’m really grateful for the information on diet and am shopping more creatively in a nearby market. Also cooking more flavorsome soups with those essential greens which I was missing before. Each post has a little idea that I can use in organizing my meals in a busy routine. The exercise suggestions are helpful as well. All round some good advice. Thanks.

Laurel took the words right out of my mouth. : ) This recharge has been great because while I expected it to help my writing, I didn’t realize I’d get so many great healthy eating/exercising tips, to boot! I’ve always loved greens/veggies, but have been lazy about preparing them myself. You’ve given me a lot of good ideas as to how to easily incorporate the green stuff…so, no more excuses! : )

Yay! I’m glad this has all been helpful for you. That was my main goal so I’m happy to have achieved it :-)
